3rd October 2023 Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: 10/28 Surf / Sea State: river chop and smooth Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 19.54 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 38.75 mile (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Tuesday 3rd October – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington – sunny periods and mild. Foil – 19.54 knot max, 18.56 knot ave, 13.50 knot hour, 17.08 knot mile, 62.08 km., 14.55 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 6.5. With a good breeze from the wnw forecast there was only one option for me, the River Orwell at Levington and with low water at 8.30 it gave me time to do the exercises before heading over to the marina at 11.40. It was sunny, there was loads of water and a good breeze blowing down the river fomn the right, foil board was soon set up, now what sail? I was getting up to 20 knots on the beach but it can be lighter down the river towards Felixstowe docks so I went for 6.5 which in the end proved challenging with wind gusting to nearly 30 knots at times but I was on the water for nearly 3 hours covering nearly 40 miles! I did loads of long near two mile runs down to Felixstowe docks with the water nice and smooth to start with, it only lumped up as the tide got high and it did get pretty high! Not many gybes today with me doing long runs but got a few nice ones, only going in once. It was nice to be out by myself to start with Michael G joining me later as the wind picked up, he had rigged 5.2, which would have been a better size for me at times too, I would have defiately been faster I am sure! So a top session and only 6 miles from home, then pack up, shower and home to spend a few hours with the Granddaughter, the lovely Maeva:) Breezy tomorrow but we have things to do in the afternoon so hope to get out in the morning for a coupe of hours, not sure where yet?
